40-400guest capacity range

Super-yacht hire on Sydney Harbour is what corporate flagships, milestone celebrations and high-end weddings book when an ordinary charter boat won’t do. Bigger, more crew, more amenities, and the production scale that lifts an event from “nice cruise” to “this is the night people will talk about for years.”

Boatique brokers across the full Sydney premium fleet — from the entry-tier ~80-guest motor yachts through to the 250-400 guest function vessels at the very top of the market. This page covers what super-yacht hire on Sydney Harbour really means, what it costs, which boats are available, and how to choose the right one for your event.

What counts as a super-yacht on Sydney Harbour?

The “super-yacht” label is loosely applied across the Sydney charter market. Strictly, super-yachts are vessels over ~24m (78ft) with professional crew, premium fit-out and luxury amenities. Practically, in the Sydney market, super-yacht hire describes the top tier of the harbour fleet — boats that:

  • Have professional crew (skipper, deckhand, often a separate event manager or maitre d’)
  • Run from $1,500/hour up to $4,000+/hour depending on size and tier
  • Offer commercial kitchens, multiple bars, dedicated event spaces and full A/V infrastructure
  • Operate out of premium berths — Sydney Superyacht Marina at Rozelle, King Street Wharf, Barangaroo, Rose Bay Marina
  • Carry capacities from ~40 (intimate luxury) up to ~400 (large function-vessel scale)

Below that tier you’re into regular yacht hire territory (see our private yacht charter Sydney page). Above it you’re into the genuinely rare end of the market — 30m+ private vessels typically only available through dedicated premium operators.

Sydney’s premium super-yacht fleet — six boats across the range

The boats below span the Sydney super-yacht market from the entry premium tier through to the genuine high end. All available for whole-vessel charter through Boatique.

Super-yacht hire by capacity tier

40–80 guests — intimate premium

The entry tier of super-yacht hire on Sydney Harbour. Boats in this band typically run $1,500–$2,500/hour and include vessels like YOT Viva (80 guests, motor yacht), Caviar (70 guests, sailing yacht), Aurora and Little Perle. Best for: smaller corporate events, milestone birthdays and intimate weddings where you want the super-yacht experience without the function-vessel scale.

This is also the band that fits private 4-6 hour cruises rather than full evening functions — the lower hourly rate makes shorter charters financially viable in a way the larger boats don’t.

80–150 guests — mid-tier super-yacht

The sweet spot of the premium market. Boats like Lumir, Evolution, Bluestone and Shadow operate in this band. Pricing typically $2,500–$3,700/hour. Best for: mid-size corporate functions, NYE flagship events, end-of-year parties for 80–120 guests where dedicated A/V, multiple dining zones and serious dance-floor production are needed.

150–400 guests — large super-yacht / function vessel

The top of the market by scale. Le Bleu (250 guests), Seadeck (400 guests), Constellation and Cadman operate here. Pricing $2,500–$3,700/hour with significant minimums. Best for: corporate flagship events, large weddings, milestone celebrations where the event itself is the year’s anchor occasion. Multi-deck production, commercial-grade catering capacity, full event team onboard.

What you pay for super-yacht hire on Sydney Harbour

Super-yacht charter pricing is structured very differently from regular boat hire. Three things drive the cost:

The boat itself

Hourly rate ranges from $1,500 (entry premium, smaller intimate vessels) up to $4,000+ (the genuine high-end of the Sydney fleet). Most events book 4–6 hour blocks; some operators have higher minimums on Friday/Saturday nights or peak seasons (NYE, Christmas, December overall).

Food and beverage

Super-yacht catering is rarely sold standalone — most operators require either a catering package booked through their preferred caterer or a minimum F&B spend. Expect catering at $80–$200+ per head depending on tier (canapés through to multi-course plated dinner). Beverage packages typically start around $40/head for standard and run to $120+/head for premium open bar.

Extras and services

DJ, event manager, additional crew, special equipment (uplighting, A/V hire, dance floor production), special menus, cake, decoration setup, valet. These add up — a flagship corporate evening might add $5,000–$15,000+ on extras alone on top of boat hire and standard catering.

Realistic all-in budgets for super-yacht events on Sydney Harbour: a corporate end-of-year for 80 guests on a mid-tier super-yacht typically lands around $25,000–$40,000 all-inclusive. A wedding reception for 100 guests on a premium vessel lands $35,000–$70,000+. NYE flagship events on the top tier run $80,000–$140,000.

Where Sydney super-yachts depart from

Unlike the broader Sydney charter market (which uses dozens of wharves across the harbour), the super-yacht fleet is concentrated at a handful of premium berths:

  • Sydney Superyacht Marina, Rozelle — the dedicated premium marina on the western harbour. Lumir, Evolution and several other top-tier boats berth here. Best for events that prefer a quieter, more private boarding experience away from the King Street Wharf crowds.
  • King Street Wharf / Darling Harbour — the central premium precinct. Seadeck, AQA, Caviar and many of the larger function vessels depart from here. Best for events with guests coming from across Sydney where central CBD access matters.
  • Barangaroo — newer premium precinct adjacent to the CBD. YOT Viva and a handful of recent additions depart from here. Quick access to the central harbour basin.
  • Rose Bay Marina — the eastern-harbour alternative for events with guests concentrated in the eastern suburbs. Caviar and several premium vessels berth here.
  • Pyrmont — adjacent to King Street Wharf but slightly quieter. Several premium catamarans depart from here.

What’s typically included on a super-yacht charter

Standard inclusions across the Sydney super-yacht fleet:

  • Whole-vessel hire for the booked duration
  • Professional crew (skipper, deckhand, at minimum)
  • Commercial-grade kitchen and bars onboard
  • A/V system, sound system and microphone for speeches
  • Climate-controlled indoor spaces plus outdoor decks
  • Full bathrooms and changing facilities
  • Insurance for the vessel and standard liability

Variables by boat:

  • Catering and beverage — sometimes included as part of a package, often separately quoted
  • DJ, event manager, additional crew — typically additional
  • BYO permissions — varies. Premium licensed boats (YOT Viva, Seadeck) require their licensed bar. Other vessels accept BYO with appropriate notice and corkage
  • Decorations and styling — typically supplied by the customer or a separate event stylist

Events Sydney super-yacht hire suits best

Some events are obvious fits for super-yacht hire. Others get over-spec’d and you’re better off on a regular yacht or catamaran. Honest read on the right fit:

Corporate flagship events

End-of-year celebrations, major product launches, client appreciation evenings for 80+ guests where the venue is part of the message. Super-yacht hire signals “this matters” in a way a standard function venue can’t.

Milestone weddings

Sydney Harbour as the wedding venue, with the boat as both ceremony and reception space. Best on the premium mid-to-large vessels (Le Bleu, Seadeck, Lumir).

New Year’s Eve charters

NYE on Sydney Harbour is when the super-yacht fleet is fully booked first — typically by July. Premium vessels with allocated harbour positions for both the 9pm Family Fireworks and the midnight show command premium NYE pricing. See our NYE private charter page for the full picture.

Milestone celebrations

Major birthdays (50th, 60th, 70th), significant anniversaries, retirement celebrations where the host wants to mark the occasion at scale.

What super-yacht hire DOESN’T suit: casual day cruises, small social gatherings under 30 guests (you’re paying for capacity you won’t use), short transfers or 2-3 hour events (the hourly rate × minimum hours make these uneconomical compared to a regular charter).

How to choose your Sydney super-yacht

Three filters cut through the choice paralysis fast:

1. Guest count first, then style

The capacity band determines the boat shortlist before anything else. 80 guests = intimate-premium fleet. 150 = mid-tier. 250+ = large function vessels only.

2. Wharf access for guests

If guests are coming from across Sydney, central wharves (King Street Wharf, Barangaroo) win. If eastern suburbs concentrated, Rose Bay departure makes sense. If guests will arrive by car, parking access at the boarding wharf matters.

3. F&B model: package or BYO

Premium licensed boats with their own bar mean less coordination work (and higher per-head cost). BYO-permitted boats give budget control but require you to coordinate catering, drinks, glassware and service staff.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between super-yacht hire and luxury yacht hire?

“Super-yacht” usually refers to vessels at the premium tier (over $1,500/hour with professional crew and luxury amenities). “Luxury yacht” is a broader term that can include premium catamarans and sailing yachts at any price point. There’s overlap — many of the boats in our super-yacht fleet are also marketed as luxury yachts.

How far in advance should we book a super-yacht?

For NYE, December and major event weeks, premium super-yachts sell out 6 months ahead. For other peak periods (March, October-November), 3 months is realistic. Outside peak, 4-6 weeks ahead is usually sufficient — but the most popular boats book first.

Can we BYO catering and drinks on a super-yacht?

Depends on the boat. Vessels with their own licensed bar (YOT Viva, Seadeck) require you to use their bar. BYO-permitted boats are common in the mid-tier ($2,000-3,000/hour band). Always confirm in writing before signing.

What’s the minimum charter duration?

Typically 4 hours on weekday daytimes, 5-6 hours on Friday/Saturday evenings, with longer minimums on peak nights (NYE, Christmas Eve, major event nights).

Do super-yachts run in bad weather?

Sydney Harbour is sheltered enough that wind and rain rarely cancel cruises. Decisions to cancel for weather are made by the skipper based on actual conditions on the day. See our weather and cancellation policy page for industry-typical refund and reschedule terms.

Are super-yachts available for daytime corporate events?

Yes. Many of the premium fleet run daytime corporate cruises — board around 11am, run a half-day or full-day event, return by 4-5pm. Often available at off-peak pricing compared to evening hire.

How many crew come with the charter?

At minimum: skipper + deckhand. Larger vessels (150+ guests) typically have an event manager or maître d’ plus catering staff on top. For very large events on the 250-400 guest vessels, full event production crew is standard.

What does a typical corporate NYE super-yacht event cost?

For 80 guests on a mid-tier super-yacht (e.g. Caviar, YOT Viva), expect $25,000-$40,000 all-inclusive (boat + catering + drinks + DJ). For 150 guests on a larger vessel, $50,000-$90,000+. See our real cost of NYE page for the full breakdown across tiers.

Can we hold a wedding ceremony onboard?

Yes — many of the premium fleet are licensed for civil ceremonies. The boat operates as both ceremony venue and reception space. Confirm celebrant logistics and access during booking.

What’s included in the rate?

Hourly rate covers: boat hire, professional crew, fuel, insurance, basic onboard facilities. Almost always NOT included: catering, beverages (unless package), DJ, event manager, decorations, special equipment hire.
