Yes — on most Sydney hire boats you can bring your own alcohol, and it’s one of the biggest reasons people choose to hire rather than book a dinner cruise. On a self-drive boat you’re in full control: bring whatever you like, keep it cold and enjoy it responsibly. On skippered charters it varies boat to boat — many are happily BYO, some run a licensed bar instead, and a few ask for glass-free drinks. Here’s how to get it right.

Self-drive boats are fully BYO
Our own self-drive boats — Coral and the Axopar 28 — are completely BYO. There’s no bar, no corkage and no minimum spend: you bring your drinks and food, load the esky, and you’re set for the day. It’s the cheapest, most relaxed way to have exactly what you want on the water, and Coral needs no licence at all.

BYO on skippered charter boats
Across the wider fleet, most skippered boats welcome BYO alcohol — you provision it yourself and the crew looks after you on the day. Some larger boats run a licensed bar instead of BYO, and a handful ask for cans and plastic rather than glass for safety. The fleet browser below shows what each boat allows, so you can filter to the ones that suit how you want to drink.

Drinking safely on the water
A day on the harbour and a few drinks go together — just keep it sensible. If you’re skippering a self-drive boat yourself, treat it like driving: the person at the wheel should stay under the limit. Bring more water than you think you’ll need, pace it out over the hours, and keep an eye on anyone swimming. The crew on skippered boats will help manage this for you.

BYO Alcohol on a Hire Boat — FAQs
Can you bring your own alcohol on a hire boat in Sydney?
On most boats, yes. All our self-drive boats are fully BYO with no corkage, and the majority of skippered charter boats allow BYO too — the fleet browser shows which.
Is there a corkage fee?
Not on self-drive boats. Some skippered boats charge corkage or run a bar instead; it’s listed per boat.
Can I bring glass bottles?
On self-drive, yes, though cans are easier at sea. Some skippered boats ask for no glass — check the boat’s rules before you provision.
