Boatique was founded in 2021, but the boating story goes back 30 years.
I’m David Peak, the founder. Boatique starts with my mum.
I was 14, fishing off the ocean rocks at the beaches, and Mum was convinced I’d get swept off by a wave. So instead we saved up for a small tinny — a 12-foot Haviland Ginnie with a 15hp Evinrude. That boat got us into Pittwater every weekend. The boats kept getting bigger. I think we’re on boat #15 by now.
Three decades later our family still owns boats in Sydney, hires boats every year in the Whitsundays out of Hamilton Island, and has explored every nook and cranny of Sydney Harbour and Pittwater along the way. Boatique exists because that experience — three decades of being the customer trying to find the right boat — gave us a very specific view of what the industry kept getting wrong.
Why Boatique exists
For 30 years our family was the customer ringing five operators for a quote. We’d describe the brief — 30 guests, BYO, Sunday lunch, somewhere with a swim spot — and each operator would come back with their own boat as if it were the only answer. Sometimes it was. Usually it wasn’t. The problem wasn’t bad operators; it was that nobody in Sydney was set up to match boats to briefs. That’s the gap Boatique closes.
